\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nMy Source Material, Why Did I Choose This?:\u00a0<\/h2>\n I actually chose materials that weren\u2019t important to me,\u00a0but they were when I was younger.\u00a0I love listening to video essays\u00a0and theories on various media.\u00a0Whenever\u00a0I was animating or doing a mundane art task\u00a0in my\u00a0undergrad, I\u00a0would\u00a0have\u00a0that genre of video\u00a0in the background\u00a0to take a break from listening to the news (real important\u00a0shit).\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0super silly stuff,\u00a0but\u00a0when\u00a0I was a\u00a0teenager,\u00a0Game Theory first started getting\u00a0BIG;\u00a0seeing a huge channel\u00a0discussing\u00a0my favorite IPs,\u00a0subverting\u00a0and contextualizing their narratives\u00a0felt\u00a0very important.\u00a0It really\u00a0validated\u00a0my feelings that video games were art.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nHowever I am now grown, and I care far less about Five Nights of Freddy’s, now it feels like fun junk food for my brain. (Although teens and kiddos still care about the spooky animatronics, so it\u2019s been a clutch move when bonding with the youths when I was a nanny.) I also hate AI, I\u00a0<\/span>hate\u00a0<\/span><\/i>it. I\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0hate\u00a0automation;\u00a0it\u00a0makes life way better when done\u00a0currently. I\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0think \u201cAI\u201d is done\u00a0correctly;\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0mostly bullshit even down to the name.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0a marketing strategy giving excuses to companies to fire\u00a0workers and build giant databases that poison the land.\u00a0I did not want to give Notebook LM anything \u201cmeaningful\u201d.\u00a0I\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0want to let it in on the worlds I care about on my own volition.\u00a0So,\u00a0I gave it\u00a0the\u00a0silly spooky bear game\u00a0that I know way too much about.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\nThe AI Generated Materials<\/h2>\n\n\n\nInfographic – the prompt:<\/strong>Mind Map<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<\/audio>Audio Overview – the prompt:<\/strong> 1. Accuracy Check<\/h2>\n What did the AI get right?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\nThe basics. It was able to categorize the general hot topics (e.g., MCI or the Missing Child Incident, The Bite of 83\u2019 and 87\u2019, The Aftons…). It sometimes would match what theory goes with what Youtuber. It\u2019s pretty efficient in barfing out information in bullet point fashion.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nWhat did it get wrong, oversimplify, or miss entirely?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\nThe transcripts from the videos\u00a0aren\u2019t\u00a0great; they\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0separate who is saying what, so when trying to describe the multiple popular theories out there and how they\u00a0conflict, it\u00a0struggles.\u00a0When I had it made an audio debate where two personalities choose a stance to argue about from the materials I provided. It\u00a0was\u00a0pretty\u00a0much mincemeat.\u00a0Yes, both were referencing actual game elements but in ways to make no sense to the actual theories provided, the \u201chosts\u201d argued about points no real person would argue about.\u00a0In the prompt, I instructed one personality to use the books as reference while the other did\u00a0not,\u00a0and it took that and made 70% of the podcast arguing about the books.\u00a0The mind map struggles to clarify what theory is and what is a\u00a0canon\u00a0fact.\u00a0The info\u00a0graph was\u00a0illegible.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nWere there any subtle distortions or misrepresentations that a non-expert might not catch?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\nGoing back to the\u00a0mind map,\u00a0and in\u00a0other words it\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0cite its sources well. It does provide the transcript it referred to, but the transcripts\u00a0aren\u2019t\u00a0very useful\u00a0as described above. It\u00a0flips\u00a0flopped between\u00a0stated\u00a0what as a theory and what was canon to the game (confirmed by the creators).\u00a0If someone were to read it without much knowledge, they would be bombarded with information that conflicts,\u00a0isn\u2019t\u00a0organized narratively, and\u00a0stated\u00a0in context\u00a0of its\u00a0origin.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n2. Usefulness for Learning<\/strong><\/p>\nIf you were\u00a0encountering\u00a0this material for the first time, would these AI-generated resources help you understand it?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\nSemi-informative but not at all engaging.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n
What do the podcast, mind map, and infographic each do well (or poorly) as learning tools?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\nBoth podcast and mind map were at least comprehensible; the info graph was not.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nWhich format was most\/least effective? Why?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\nThe podcast is the most effective; there was some generated personality to distinguish the motivation behind certain\u00a0theories,\u00a0not great\u00a0distinctions but more than nothing.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n3. The Aesthetic of AI<\/span><\/h3>\nIt\u2019s\u00a0safe to say Youtubers and podcasters are still safe job wise. Hearing theories about haunted\u00a0animatronics\u00a0in the format and aesthetics of an NPR podcast was deeply embarrassing. Hearing a\u00a0generated\u00a0voice call me a \u201cFazz-head\u201d was demoralizing to say the least.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nThey made\u00a0pretty bad\u00a0debaters\u00a0too.\u00a0The\u00a0one who was\u00a0presumably\u00a0assigned\u00a0the role of \u201cI will only use the games\u00a0as references\u201d at one point waved away their opponent\u2019s\u00a0claim\u00a0with the response,\u00a0\u201cyeah but that\u2019s if you seriously take a mini game from 10 years ago\u201d.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nIt took out\u00a0all of\u00a0the fun; there were no longer cheeky remarks of self-depreciating jokes about the silliness of the topic and efforts.\u00a0Often theorists will acknowledge Scott Cawthon did not think these implications\u00a0fully\u00a0out, that this effort may be rooted in retcons and\u00a0wishful thinking, but\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0still fun.\u00a0The hosts and\u00a0mind map\u00a0acted like they were categorizing\u00a0religious text,\u00a0and it was remarkably unenjoyable to sit through.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n4. Trust & Limitations<\/strong><\/p>\nAI is good at taking (proven) information and organizing it in a way that is nice to look at.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0great for schedules or breakdowns. It sucks at\u00a0just about everything\u00a0else.\u00a0I only really have\u00a0benefitted\u00a0from AI when it comes to programming;\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0really nice\u00a0to have an answer to what is wrong with your code (even if\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0not always right; it usually leads you past the point of being stumped).\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nWhen it comes to art, interpretation, and comprehension,\u00a0I\u00a0wouldn\u2019t\u00a0recommend AI to anyone.\u00a0If you are making a quiz, make it yourself.
