{"id":5732,"date":"2026-03-03T13:15:47","date_gmt":"2026-03-03T18:15:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dems.asc.ohio-state.edu\/?p=5732"},"modified":"2026-04-16T01:12:30","modified_gmt":"2026-04-16T05:12:30","slug":"pressure-project-2-transcendence-through-snares","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dems.asc.ohio-state.edu\/?p=5732","title":{"rendered":"Pressure Project #2 &#8211; Transcendence through Snares"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Description of my cell-block:<\/strong>&nbsp;\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Independently, my&nbsp;cell-block&nbsp;uses the snare of the audio provided to cycle through a set of mouth shapes to simulate lip syncing (albeit not realistic lip syncing).&nbsp;It also takes the video input and through Ramp and Displace, warps the image based on the \u201cmid\u201d registered from the audio as well.&nbsp;Without outside&nbsp;input&nbsp;the audio used is \u201cPosition Famous\u201d by Frost Children, and&nbsp;the video is a looping timelapse POV of a subway traveling underground. This was to create a sense of motion and&nbsp;exhilaration&nbsp;(the movement of the subway and displacement), and playfulness (the lip syncing).&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Collective documentation:<\/strong>&nbsp;\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Video\/photos of the assembled system: Admittedly, I forgot to take footage of the showcase. I was a bit more nervous&nbsp;about&nbsp;this project, worried about everything working properly with the other&nbsp;cell-blocks. Once it was my&nbsp;turn,&nbsp;I only focused on presenting my work.&nbsp;I plan to reach out to classmates to see if they&nbsp;recorded&nbsp;footage.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Process reflection:<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The\u00a0cell-block\u00a0was self-contained but, on the exterior, was connected to incoming TOP and CHOP inputs and fed those inputs out.\u00a0So, on\u00a0its\u00a0own, the\u00a0block\u00a0would play as planned, but once external audio and video were fed in, they would inherit the effects of the\u00a0previous\u00a0media.\u00a0There were some issues with feedback loops when testing this out, but mostly, it worked. The lips\u00a0were\u00a0a last-minute add-on and therefore independent&#8230; so no matter what, the lips stayed on screen; how it\u00a0reacted depended on the audio input.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I chose to control the level of flashiness and movement in my visuals.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0easy to fall into producing loud and flashy imagery with programs like\u00a0TouchDesigner\u00a0or even After Effects, however, I try to use media responsibly, and I also\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0want to give myself a headache.\u00a0I\u2019ve\u00a0made materials that are hard for photosensitive people to take in, and while some others loved the\u00a0chaotic\u00a0visuals, I\u00a0wasn\u2019t\u00a0satisfied knowing a group of people\u00a0wouldn\u2019t\u00a0be able to watch it (and enjoy it).\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I was surprised that a lot of people didn\u2019t use audio that contained many snares (or used much audio at\u00a0all)&#8230;\u00a0I was also\u00a0surprised\u00a0that everything worked together for the most part (if you\u00a0can\u2019t\u00a0tell, I was nervous).\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When combined, everyone\u2019s work offered me something new. I would combine with Luke\u2019s when I wanted the most cohesive combination, I would combine with Zarmeen\u2019s when I wanted to\u00a0destroy\u00a0everything (or use her audio), I combined with Chad&#8217;s because I wanted to appear on his channels more, and I combined with Curtus when I wanted to see a dragon.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This project was&nbsp;a new&nbsp;way to envision Halprin\u2019s cell-block method, but in a strictly digital realm.
